Not familiar with the bike I then found and read your blog late into the night (I barely slept!). Bright and early this morning I contacted the seller. She had no idea what it was. To me the bike appeared small, but the price was $30! (Yes, that's right). I msg’d the seller to ask about size and availability. BUT she already had someone coming to look at it. I msg'd the seller I asked her to send additional photos and I confirmed that only the original handlebar and seat were gone, but the rest of the bike was original (including your 'missing' SunTour seatpost clamp!). I let her know I was interested and could have someone check it out today. After inquiring I let her know the bike was worth more than $30. She is selling off some of her grandfather’s estate and is struggling financially. I asked her to measure the seat tube and she came back with 18.5”. I’m 6’1” tall and the bike would be way too small for me. She pulled the sale to rethink the price. Do you have any idea of what a fair price would be? Paint has some chips, some surface rust on front derailleur, but overall is in about 8 out of 10 condition. As far as I know it’s still available. I’ll be visiting relatives in mid-Oct and would be able to have one of them pick it up for me today and then I could bring it back and do a restoration (hunt out the Nitto bull moose bar – 1 on eBay today!, find a saddle, replace cables, check BB, etc…)

It is a cool bit of bike history and would be even cooler if it fit me, but I may grab it anyway.

Thanks for any info.
David G.
AZ BIKENRDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14097961138926112863noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5628808254855280975.post-3085678310282846182017-06-15T18:10:12.786-06:002017-06-15T18:10:12.786-06:00Glad to hear of your Trail Runner acquisition. I had a lot of great times with my '86 Trail Runner in the old days. It came with 1.75" tires, but I eventually put the fattest tires I could find at the time on it, 2.1" Fisher Fattrax, which felt actually wider than 2.1". I recall it had decent room, with the chainstay area having the tightest clearance. Good luck with your project!Andy D.https://www.blogger.com/profile/01721273913834541311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5628808254855280975.post-80777511233295783202017-06-15T13:04:41.944-06:002017-06-15T13:04:41.944-06:00After a few years of passive searching for a lugge...After a few years of passive searching for a lugged MTB, I just scored a 23" 1986 Trail Runner off CL-yes in Royal Platinum- and while researching came across your blog. Very cool rebuild of the Ridge Runner, I may just have to see how much rubber I can get away with when I rebuild it, I like the look of those werewolfs https://ryansrebuilds.blogspot.com/RoadieRyanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15900109046198641775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5628808254855280975.post-35088294702202678552015-03-07T23:36:45.345-07:002015-03-07T23:36:45.345-07:00I have exactly the same bike and presently my rear...I have exactly the same bike and presently my rear derailleur (Mountech GTL 5500) tension coil spring snap in half.
